US customers are beginning to receive their pre-ordered Model Y’s from Tesla.
The small SUV was first announced back in March 2019 and is essentially a slightly larger version of its popular Model 3, utilising 75% of the same parts but also featuring an optional third row of seats and extra headroom, so it can fit up to 7 passengers. While the changes aren’t huge, the SUV market is huge for car manufacturers, so Tesla are expecting Model Y sales to eventually eclipse all its other models.
“Model Y deliveries begin,” said the company on Twitter, revealing a two-minute showcase video.
The Model Y is available in two variations – Long Range and Performance – priced at $52,990 and $60,990 respectively. The Performance model boasts a 298-mile range and a 0-60 mph time of 3.5-seconds. A Standard Range model will also be available in Spring 2021 for $39,000.
UK pricing and release dates are yet to be announced.
